How to Increase Website Visibility on Google

Digital Marketing

Have you ever typed something into Google to search? Ever key your own business into Google search and wonder why it’s not showing? Google’s algorithm uses machine learning to rank sites that show up on the Search Engine Results Page (SERP) and said algorithm is updated upwards of 500-600 times a year. SEO is also a bit of a waiitng game since it does take time for crawlers to rank your pages. As an agency, we’re here to help you increase your overall ranking on Google, and gain higher visibility in front of the consumers that matter.

But if you’re taking matters into your own hands, here are 5 quick wins you can take action on to help increase your ranking:

1. Check your Current Ranking

Check out your search visibility using online tools. The search visibility metric is great to help you understand how often your website is found on the web. We use paid tools such as SEMrush & Ahrefs, which have a visibility percent metric seen in position tracking & rank tracker to estimate trends of visibility for the targeted keywords being tracked.

2. Aim for Long-Tail Keywords

Another way to increase your website visibility on Google is to choose less competitive keywords, aka “long-tail keywords”. When looking at generic keywords with high search volumes, these become too competitive and it is incredibly difficult to rank against them.

For example, if you are an Orthodontist in Toronto, choosing “Orthodontist” as your keyword is incredibly competitive, but refining it further with more specifiers like “wisdom teeth removal Toronto” will help make it less competitive and increase your ranking.

3. Get Mobile-Friendly

Optimize your website to have increased page speed and ensure that it is mobile friendly. These are ranking factors by Google, and if they are not optimized properly, they will reduce your ranking & visibility on the web.

Google released a new mobile-friendly ranking algorithm in April 2015 to give a boost in rankings for mobile-friendly pages in mobile search results. Back in July 2019, mobile-first indexing enabled by default for all new websites going live. For older websites, Google will continue to crawl to ensure mobile-first best practices on your website.

4. Add Proper Titles and Meta Descriptions

Following SEO Best practices, make sure title tags have your dedicated keyword & brand name. Don’t go over the max character count of (60) or duplicate titles across your site.

Have a call to action & dedicated keyword in your meta descriptions. Ensure the character count is not over (160) and the descriptions are engaging & captivating to generate clicks from users. These steps will improve your SERP visibility & click-through rate to your website.

5. Create and Optimize Google My Business

Create and optimize your Google My Business profile by adding services you offer, industry categories, locations your business services and replying to reviews from your customers.

Ensure your NAP ( Name, Address, Phone Number) is consistent with your website & across the web. This is another ranking factor with Google, as well this assists your visibility in locations you service.
