In 2021, NVISION launched The Kevin Doherty Scholarship to Support Digital Creativity to honour Kevin Doherty — NVISION employee #1, our long-time Creative Director and our friend.
We were deeply saddened by Kevin’s passing last December after his brave battle against cancer. We all miss his passion, the mentoring he offered, his creativity, the support, inspiration, humour, bloody caesars, hugs, hot sauces, home brews, friendship and so much more. Of course, no one misses him more than his young family.
“Kevin was a huge part of NVISION’s growth and creative direction,” says George Arabian, CEO of NVISION. “He was only extremely gifted creatively, but was genuinely an all around amazing human being who guided the company and myself in so many ways.”
It all makes it so important that we continue to honour Kevin’s legacy by once again offering the Kevin Doherty Scholarship to Support Digital Creativity in 2022.
The 2022 Kevin Doherty Scholarship
The annual scholarship awards $1,500 to a graduating high school student, or postsecondary student who is enrolled in a graphic/communication design program at a Canadian post-secondary college/university.
The scholarship recipient will have demonstrated their commitment to any of the digital arts or marketing disciplines, including digital illustration, web design, graphic design, user experience, copywriting and marketing & communications.
The First Scholarship Recipients
Kevin was very happy and proud to have his name associated with a scholarship that supports design creativity. He was also pleased to be part of the team that selected the first two recipients of the scholarship, Madison (Madi) Mesquita and Damiano Perrella.
Madi is a keen member of the digital marketing team as an intern at NVISION. She has shown her dedication to the principles represented in the Kevin Doherty Scholarship, including creative problem solving and continual learning.
Madi applied her scholarship to complete her studies as a member of the 2022 Graduating Class of the Media, Information & Technoculture program at Western University.
“I am extremely overwhelmed by NVISION’s decision to award me this scholarship,” says Madi. “It is truly an honour and I am so grateful to be a part of an initiative who values education and giving back to others.”
Damiano shares Kevin’s philosophy of creativity, as he uses design as a way to solve problems. His talents were highly recognized by the NVISION team and we hope Damiano will continue to follow his passion for graphic design and architectural design.
“With everything I produce, I aim to explore the emotive qualities that graphical representation possesses,” says Damiano. “My dedication to the craft is clear through my involvement with various organizations as a graphic committee member or director of design.”
